DAY THREE
Last update: 05/01/01 10:19 PM
Okay for now we try something new, lots of pictures and I'll catch up with the sarcastic wit and wildly popular wit as time allows. Sheri's crashed as she was sitting at the table with me and each time her head started to bob she'd catch herself before her head hit the table. I have atleast a little left and will start by just populating 2 days worth of pictures and we'll see from there. Latest motto is "bits are free". Sheri keeps asking why are you taking that picture and this picture, heck I see something cool and I stick the camera out the window a click away. The technology is now so fantastic (as long as you're close enough and there is enough light) that I can just keep clicking and clicking and clicking and I don't have to pay to develop the film. Heck I can just pitch the bad ones and as long as I don't run out of floppies to put the pictures on we just keep on going and going like the engergizer picture clicking bunny.............
Stopped while it chewed on those last 10 pictures (FrontPage as I haven't the time to do the html for this little project) and grabbed a couple of double stuffs. MMMMmmmmGood. This is why Hawaii runs circles around the Carribean. Flights out here to the Pacific are long but just try to buy double stuffs in the Bahamas.
I'll apologize the to the bandwidth impaired for all these pictures without a thumbnail im site. Again, this is mainly a k bandwidth problem as Sheri sleeps now and in the morning she is ready to roll bright and early and I don't roll bright and early on the best day of my life let alone after a long night editting pictures and writing postcards..........which we now return to.........
Turn your head side ways for this one, haven't rotated it yet. This is the flower on and banana tree.
This is the last of the nice pictures from our guided tour through the forest. Note I said the last of the good ones. Here is why Kevin doesn't like to pose for pictures cause if you ask him to smile he'll screw it up sure as he's foot high. It also is a classic example of why you should take as many of each shot as you can without slowing the event. Note the "bits are free" but if their being written to 3.5" floppy they may be free but their slow as molasses so our guide only took one. Never the less in all their glory our wonderful travelers.......yikes here it comes.......
Now we travelled on to this needle thing. Now I am thinking needle like space needle go up on a ride kind of thing but was assured this was not what I was getting into. This is a natural needle which extends hundreds of feet into the air.......yeah right let's see it already..........
Whoops this is the beautiful valley just before we get to the "needle".
Whoops, sidetracked again, this is the first cat sighting on the 10 year excursion, its a long way away so the digital camera is straining mightily to tray to capture this guy but tried awful hard to get him.......and his buddy........
I know you're thinking enough already its time for a new digital camera (I know). Here is the best it could muster.
I know you all can't wait to see the "needle"
I warned you it was so exciting you'd......I have one more which is the camera trying to get the top.
Not bad. And one which needs a rotate.
Nah, its not worth rotating. The end of the needle debacle, tour was cool and the nature center stuff above I'll ramble about later. I think one of the coolest things was a human size globe with a tape measure on it which you used to measure how far you came from across the globe to visit the nature center. I think ours came out at about 4500 miles (wouldn't have missed it for the world, especially the "needle"). Reminder here to talk about our Hawaiian pronunciation specialist Canuck who taught us all kinds of c(whoops k)ool stuff about (with the Canadian bout) the rain forest.
Back at the ranch, its looking like siesta time again. Our travel planner Sheri was nice enough to capture this special Kodak moment for all our friends at home watching on their local stations across the midwest.
I am actully LOL at this one. This one is truly special and I thought I looked bad above in the posed picture. This one is natural, captured carefully, this is not a dramatization but is the real kevin getting his proper rest.
You can rest assured that I am not laying here buck naked from the waist down for this and would have happily put my shorts back on for this photo op had I been scheduled for the shoot. I have unedited verson available for free (shipping and handling is $9.95) should you have any doubts here. I just couldn't bring myself to post it in all its glory. I believe those are my shorts on the table there which as I remember came off first in preperation for the next item on the travel itinerary. Unfortunately, the siesta got the best of me and Sheri took on Sunset number two on her own.
And this one I believe is the best of the collection, too bad I didnt' kick up the resolution on the camera until late the next day.
First as we are leaving the Royal Kahana.
And with a little better focus, this is the digital camera struggling with both distance and lack of light so the next picture is a miracle.
This is the main entrance which at night is really kool.
Dinner was in LaHaina to "Cheeseburger in Paradise" which is as in Buffett (sp?) for those who are fans.
Lahaina on a busy evening, lots of food, lots of shops.
Many art galleries too.
And an artist doing portraits with a couple of wonderful birds.....
And bird number two.....
Both appeared well cared for a the artist was extremely protective of them and neither were restrained in any way.
Some more art of the feline kind.
And as we're leaving LaHaina and headed back to our parking lot we ran into this "surfer dude" car we thought was interesting. It has the back window removed to allow for the surf board.
We fill up on the way home and this is what it costs for those who have been wondering.
And our day ended with a little ritual while we were in Maui, we each of the last two nights have walked up to HaaganDaaz (sp?) stores at 5 minutes after the close (10pm). The first night we stopped for ice cream anywhere. By the second night it became a ritual, if we don't get desert and we don't gte HDaaz, we stop for one of these:
Ah the golden arches come through when its late and your desperate. Just after this nourishment, I set up shop which looks something like this.
With that we reach end of day Three, Day Four is the road to Hana.
